Mass on the Road... Literally
Happy Easter! Yes it is still Easter. This is
only the second Sunday of Easter and there are seven of them in this joyous
Season. The Easter season is 50 days, running from Easter Sunday until
Pentecost Sunday. This week’s celebration of the resurrection of our Lord
was with much less excitement that last week’s. 😊
Today was travel day as we returned from our Florida trip,
so I’m not sure in which Diocese we actually attended mass. We were
driving through the Diocese of Raleigh as we listened to mass from St.
Patrick’s Cathedral in the Archdiocese of New York City.
Our "church" this Sunday |
This week brought us the lessons of doubting Thomas.
Thomas was one of the original Apostles but wasn’t present the first time that
Jesus appeared following his crucifixion and resurrection. He told his
fellow apostles that he needed to see Jesus and put his finger through his
wounds to believe. Jesus obliged but then chastised Thomas for not
believing and praised those who believe but have not seen. Such as
us. Cardinal Dolan had the homily. He said something that was a bit
surprising coming from a leader of the Catholic church in America. He
said that he doubted anyone in the congregation today had seen Jesus and if
they did, there were police officers in the church (a normal occurrence in case
you have never been to St Patrick’s in NYC) , ready to take them to
Bellevue. Presumably for a psyche evaluation. I understand that
there are probably a number of people who may claim to have seen an apparition,
but for a public figure such as the Cardinal and Archbishop of a large
congregation such as NYC to say what he said is surprising. There have
been visions of the virgin Mary that have been venerated. Why not Jesus?
The feeding of the body was very subdued this week because
of our travels. This week’s meal consisted of Oreos and Pringles…how’s
that for a product placement?
And our Soulfie when we finally got home...
